The ABC Blotter (or as Rush Limbaugh would say: ‘blog for those of you in Rio Linda’…no I’m not a Rush follower) has leaked information that the Bush Administration is pushing the CIA into helping to destabilize the Iranian regime by working to devalue the currency and create civil unrest. Perhaps this is in a move to take out the Iranian government soon.
War with Iran seems to be inevitable in the near future. So the government is being toyed with by the Bush Administration and the CIA, all the while the United States Navy is having a show of force right off the Iranian border. It’s absolutely absurd. If the administration wants a new war with Iran so bad, perhaps they should just come out and say it rather than play with the minds of political bloggers everywhere who are eager to put out the “Iran war starts!!” first.
News of Iran being a bad, horrible nation seem to be popping up everywhere. The military went on a raid in a Baghdad neighborhood and managed to find large sums of Iranian money waiting around, maybe sent to help purchase ammunition of some sort. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has noted that Iran continues to defy the enrichment prohibitions and is telling the United Nations that multiple violations are being made in this area.
Worst of all perhaps is the fact that the new French president has called for Tehran to stop its enrichment and for the world to watch out or else an arms race in the Middle East and southern Europe could take place, endangering that part of the world.
The right wing neoconservatives in power all over the world are ready and willing to declare war on Iran. The only trouble is I have not seen any left wing politicians and heads of agencies demand that an Iranian war not take place. Clinton, Obama, and Edwards all seem to favor more war if it was to their political advantage, whereas Bush, Guiliani, McCain and Romney are all ready to declare war right now whether it was the right thing to do or not. The only real isolationist is candidate Ron Paul.

Only congress can declare war. It should make a statement to that effect. The Ron Paul Sunset on the Iraq military force authorization might be the place to do it. If there is a declaration, it should define policy objectives. I have contacted my representatives and asked them to look for what Ron Paul is suggesting.
It is a problem: If war is coming, then a headstart is good. If it might not be, a headstart might tip things into war.
I think Ron Paul is right to lean away from intervention.
“The only real isolationist is candidate Ron Paul” is wrong. There’s Mike Gravel too, obviously!
who the real terorist??

Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, or Mike Gravel.
In that order.
All the other presidential candidates are corporate bullshit and will take us into war and ruin.
My problem with Kucinich is gun control.

What the average Americans who don’t travel outside the US don’t see that there is a much bigger world outside the United States of America. The WMD excuse to invade Iraq has alienated the US. Many moderate Arabs and Moslems I know have today turned “Anti-American” as a result of the Iraq invasion. Many of them hated Saddam but this hatred is multiplied many folds against America as a result of Ameirca’s continued occupation of Iraq.
America’s war on terror has made the world a more dangerous place and it has fueled the cause of the extremists. A war against Iran may well be a journey of no-return for America and for the rest of us.
Europe has been alienating the US for some time, going back to Reagan and Communism (which Reagan was proved right in). “Alienation” is not new for America because the vast majority of developed nations are either in or strongly influenced by mainland Europe and are therfore extremely leftist. America could very well be called the last traditionalist ideology on the planet.
It’s a big mistake to assume that all was right between the US and the world until Iraq. That’s completely untrue.
The neo cons will put the last nail in their own coffin when the war with e-ran begins. whoever starts it – it will be the beginning of the end. the chinese want it and the jap will have their hiroshima. Nuke-ing the iranian sites is not possible as they are vaguely defined by the c.i.a.
us folks in canada will join in for logistics and for the greater sale of our fossile fuel at a greater price. after all war is really about economics and if you go out on ideology you’re already too far out on a limb.
ughhh. not regime change again…
The President can do whatever he and his Administration want to do. And they can do it more easily if no one raises their voice against it.
Thanks for your site.
This is ridiculous. Why war? I heard Iran was 10 years away from developing WMD. I bet their trying to rush forward now they know whats being planned – wouldn’t you? I feel sorry for the Iranian people, their fate is being decided by politicians everyday as is ours. A million people in England protested against the Iraq war and no one listened. If we really want to do something we have to do something radical and not only get the message out to our politicians but the politicians of the world. They are playing us like pawns, they always have. Its time for it to stop. If one million people isn’t enough then maybe we should start thinking about something countrywide…if only there was enough support.
There seems to be an almost constant stream of rhetoric condemning, blaming Iran for this and that, insurgency, training terrorists, nuclear weopons blah blah blah but couldn’t this just be to shift the blame for the Iraq mess onto Iran. This administration wouldn’t be foolhardy or stupid enough to risk another mid-east conflagration after Iraq would they? Come to think of it….
Only congress can declare war. It should make a statement to that effect.
How about must reprinting the Constitution or reading it aloud during the weekly radio address? The Constitution ought to carry more weight than any ’statement’ that might be drawn up.
The president has absolutely NO Constitutional authority with regard to declaring war. He DOES have the authority to negotiate peace, but that’s all. Well, there’s the statement about him being commander in chief but that only means that the military takes their orders from him if and when Congress does declare a war, which they DIDN’T, and it DOESN’T mean that the president can order the military to create a war or to create an empire with military force.
Stop the war, and PEACE…..

Its interesting that we think alike :)
