Ron Paul: What Are the Odds?

Some mixed messages being sent from various betting locations (some real, others fictitious) concerning rising candidate Ron Paul. At sportsbook.com Paul was not even listed before the debates, and when placed in he was at 200:1 odds. But with increased betting action, a big increase, the odds were forced down all the way to 15:1 from the initial point.

Gambling911.com took notice of this and wrote a front page article about it. A senior member of the sites staff was quoted as saying:

“Ron Paul is a serious contender whose grass roots campaign is growing dramatically. No other single candidate for US President has recieved the type of interest generated here at Gambling911.com”

This surge grew when gambling911.com noted that Ron Paul got more search queries than Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani combined. The intense interest in Paul following the two debates, along with his position on supporting the right to bet online is believed to also have helped this increase. The article also mentions:

Traffic data supports the notion the Paul is presently enjoying a much bigger following than many might choose to believe.

Which is nothing new to the numerous followers of Ron Paul. But to those who are less informed, they continue to get fed the media version of recent events, which ignore Paul completely, or make the accusation that his support is fake, and has been manufactured.

Other sites, such as 2008horserace.com seem to be following the mainsteam media example. Although not a real betting location, it follows polls and other 2008 presidential news. On their front page is the results of their online poll, and also the odds they put each candidate at. A quick glimpse at this site and one can quickly see that there is little merit in it. Al Gore leads everyone, the odds are iffy overall, and Ron Paul is conveniently left off completely. Although he isn’t a poll choice, he is on the list of odds at 99:1, tied with ex-New York Governor George Pataki. To put his chances and Paul’s at the same number is absurd.

The high search rate is not a phenomenon exclusive to gambling911.com. Ron Paul was one of, if not the most, searched term in many search engines, such as technorati and yahoo. This shows a large number of people want to know more about Ron Paul, or already know about him and are searching to find places of support and news for the congressman.

Another interesting find is that Mitt Romney has recieved far fewer searches. Some would say this online landslide is caused by fraud. But when you look at blogs, web polls on countless sites, YouTube, MySpace, and thousands of other sources, it is clear that this is genuine. Ron Paul is currently the most effective candidate, in terms of using the internet, ever.

Mainstream media (and most of FOX News) will continue to blow Ron Paul off (while trying to hide their support for Giuliani…actually they don’t try to hide it either..) while the internet success shows many Americans support his views, and are interested in what he has to say. Those who have taken over the Republican party are terrified by this, they have even tried to stop this movement by removing Paul from future debates, but that failed miserably.

Why don’t they just let democracy run its course?
