The Russian-Pentagon-Sheehan Alliance?
Two peices of news were released today related to the Russians and the stance on Iran that they are taking. Vladimir Putin stated that there is no evidence Iran is building a nuclear bomb. The same article mentions that Russia is working on a nuclear power plant for Iran, however they have made this public and say it is soley for civilians and transparent for anyone to see.
The second peice of news from Russia comes from the foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, warning that no attack on Iran should happen until the United Nations and the IAEA are finished with their reports on the Iranian nuclear situation.
With the Russians not exactly being the pinnacle of protectors of human rights, bad guys defending bad guys may appear to be the situation here. Russia has money invested in Iran, they want to make sure their facilities are not destroyed by other Western forces. The real situation that arises here is why is there even talk among the nations of a British-American-Israeli attack on the nation of Iran? This is no longer just a talk of the “peace activists” rambling about how Bush wants to control the world. Iran has already mentioned that they will retaliate against Israeli-American attacks, but now Russia is having to give warnings to the West that it does not see a justification in attacking Iran.
This brings me to an article written on AlterNet titled “Will the Military halt an attack on Iran?” It’s possible, they say, if this plea put forth by Ann Wright, Daniel Ellsberg, and Cindy Sheehan makes any sort of scratch on the surface of the Pentagon force field.
I’ve realized in recent months that there has been some turnover in the Bush heirarchy. Rumsfield left, I doubt it was due to Democrat pressure. Pace was removed from the joint chiefs of staff. Gonzales left only to be replaced by someone both Republicans and Democrats were gleeing over. Tony Snow is gone and now the Department of Homeland Security’s deputy chief is leaving.
Are people just wanting to get out of the administration before they’re seen as “part of the machine and the problem”? It could be, but look in our history books. No one in the general population has any idea who 98% of say, Jimmy Carter’s administration was made up of. If the administration made a mess of things in the Carter years leading to a landslide defeat, why didn’t all of them bail out?
Perhaps a war with Iran is inevitable. Talk show hosts Hannity and Limbaugh have both mentioned that they think a war with Iran is coming before George Bush leaves office in 2009. Anyone looking up information on Vice President Cheney soon finds that at least he and his people, if not Bush and the rest, have been pushing for war with Iran before their era is over.
It may just be wild speculation, but I suspect that the reason the Iranian war has not happened yet is due to some sort of internal struggle within the White House. People are leaving, the military seems displeased with a war on Iran, and Bush and\or Cheney are seeing to it the right people are put into place.
Maybe the only way to stop a war is a Russian “NO”, a US populace calling a war with Iran criminal and wrong, all while the military brass puts their foot down on doing something they hopefully believe is impossible to achieve.
Needless to say it does not take much to see a war plan with Iran is in the works. The Sheehan-Russian-Pentagon alliance may have to be formed before we can see the demise of the neoconservative war machine, as it doesn’t look like they intend on pausing for a Democrat to get elected before Iran becomes theirs.
