McCain: No Investigation Needed

With the CIA tape scandal ongoing, at least one Republican presidential candidate has decided to let the CIA slide, and it’s the one that people might least expect: John McCain. From the Associated Press:

Republicans were mostly mum about the CIA disclosure. McCain, a presidential candidate, said while campaigning in New Hampshire on Friday that he would not side with Democrats’ calls for an investigation because he believed the CIA’s actions were legal.

McCain is maybe the only Republican presidential candidate I would even consider voting for, in part because of his strong stance against waterboarding and other torture techniques. But it’s time for the senator to put his political capital where his mouth is.

Clearly, the CIA destroyed these tapes to avoid either the political or legal fallout that would result in the tapes’ exposure to Congress or the public. For McCain to say that he opposes an investigation because he believes the destruction of the tapes was legal is preposterous, for that is exactly what any investigation would determine – whether or not the tapes’ destruction was legal. He needs to worry less about what the Republican base might think and more about what’s right.

  1. The McCain of 2000 is long since gone. He seemed like a reasonable man. The McCain of today… no.

  2. This sends certainly sends an oddly mixed message.

  3. The McCain family has long been part of cover up operations. From McCain’s dad, Admiral McCain who was instrumental in covering up the USS Liberty incident, to Senator John McCain him self and the cover up of the Savings and Loan raiders that cost American taxpayers billions, they’ve consistently worked against the interests of the American people.

Some claim the “Mc” was added and the Senator’s family name is actually “Cain”.

His wife serves on the Board of Directors of CARE that works hand in glove with the NEO CON war agenda, moving masses of people into Western and European lands.

  4. >McCain is maybe the only Republican presidential candidate I would even consider voting for, in part because of his strong stance against waterboarding and other torture techniques.<

McCain is no hero. He has long sold out our country to what Barry Goldwater labeled “the nonelected rulers”. Ron Paul is our best hope.

  5. McCain was sort of reasonable man in last years of the last century. It was even my belief that he might be perfect VP candidate for Al Gore. Beggining of new era in politics.
I was wrong. Fact that I saw him on Israeli TV suppose not to mean to much but was indication that he simply might be someone else.
Supporting that one in WH was another one.
Today, I do not think he stads for US and its people at all. Maybe he is that devil who will show himself on the day of calamity and all people will be surprised.

  6. RON PAUL is definitely “the only Republican presidential candidate I would even consider voting for” – or, RON PAUL is the ONLY presidential candidate worth voting for, period.

McCain is senile & as certifiable as Duhhbya.

  7. Personally, I’m not a supporter of Ron Paul, although I like Congressman Paul very much. The reason I can’t support him is his view on foreign policy. I don’t agree with either the neoconservative or internationalist branches of foreign policy that currently dominate the Republican and Democratic parties respectively, but I don’t agree with Paul’s isolationism either and I believe that it would be dangerous for the country and the world.

  8. its a real shame that someone who supposedly likes ron paul (i smell disinfo shill) would call him an isolationist. that is completely disingenuous and pretty much following the line the media and the neo con warhawks want you to believe. if you try to show you are “reasonable” (anyone with 1/100th of a brain cell that has allegiance to america and ONLY america – ie NOT zionists) and “like” ron paul, yet you try to throw mud on him like hes an isolationist, then you are either misinformed or a planted shill. if the case is the first (and only you REALLY know that) then please go educate yourself before touting such utter nonsense.

  9. To McCain voters, I am from another country, NZ, and from an outside point of view, McCain has just sold the American people out. There is only one reason people destroy evidence. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Vote for the person who is the most HONEST. The one who will not take you to war, devalue your money, and genuinely cares for you as a person and human being. This is about whether you are a good person with values and morals or a person without, not what is the next politician going to give me or what’s in it for me? They are asking the same thing themselves. “What’s in it for me?” And everybody is getting taken for a ride by two corrupt sides. That is why you need to choose someone honest. So, now, who do you think you should vote for?

  10. The difference between Isolationism and Non- intervention is the difference between
    Switzerland and N Korea!

  11. KB – I think Americans can choose to support or not support whichever candidate(s) they choose, without being either ignorant or planted shills. I am neither, but your gratuitous ad hominem attack on me demonstrates that you may be both.

  12. KB, some of us on this site support Ron Paul, some don’t. You made it sound like we all do.

  13. it was not my intention to portray everyone here as a ron paul supporter, i was just stating that its very disingenuous to say that he is an isolationist when he is far from it, and portraying such falsehoods could push people away who are considering him as a viable candidate (and he is the ONLY viable candidate that will restore the constitution, bring our troops home and not jump headlong into a needless and additional illegal war with iran) and im stating that you are not educated on the matter or brainwashed if you believe for a second that he is an isolationist. i am neither a shill or ignorant, and i wasnt saying you WERE necessarily a shill, but i see increasing numbers of people taking different and more desperate tactics trying to discredit paul and your comment smelled of those dirty tactics. By using the buzz word of the day to attempt to discredit him (isolationist), the only thing left would be to say something absurd like “islamofascist” (which is an oxymoron if i’ve ever heard one, there is no such thing) to further set off the bullshit detector.
