Iowa Republican Debate: Conservatism / Abortion

Keyes: Has just insulted Mitt Romney over changing his views from “just two years ago” . Then insulted Giuliani by saying he wouldn’t keep to the values of the Republican Party, and that he would not support Giuliani.

“Would you like to respond Governor Romney?” “I’m not sure” — some laughter from the audience. They both defended their positions on abortion.

Fred Thompson (on NIE report): Claims we have a big problem in our intelligence community, and now we are paying the price. We must rebuild it from the bottom up, and rely on the British and Israeli’s for now.

Romney (more important to be a fiscal or social conservative): Dodges and says they should be “conservative,” and we need to pull them all together like Ronald Reagan did. Draw upon conservative principles to strengthen this country.

Hunter (same conservative question): “Repeat the question, I was lost in Governor Romney’s explanation .. it was good though.” — Then answers by saying we should protect the right to life, and not send technology overseas. Attacks Romney for a company he was involved in that worked with a Chinese firm that bought a defense contractor.

  1. What a pathetic debate, especially the moderator. Who does that broad think she is? The questions were obviously engineered to exact inconsistencies and required considerable time to phrase the answer. That is the left-wing media though, confuse, obfuscate, and make the complicated seem overly simple.

  2. One thing to make note is that Keyes was not insulting Romney because he changed his position, he was more or less questioning the sincerity of many of the politicians on the stage.
