In the interest of fairness, I should report that Sen. Barack Obama was endorsed by the Boston Globe. This is hardly a surprise, given the Globe’s liberal bent, and the Globe’s argument in support of Obama can be summarized by saying that we should all vote for Obama because he’s shiny and new. Like the Des Moines Register, the Globe also endorses John McCain, and for similar reasons: he is, from their point of view, the lesser of several evils. This is not likely to win McCain the hearts and minds of conservatives.
Former Gov. Mitt Romney has also picked up a significant endorsement from Judge Robert Bork, the famous Reagan nominee to the Supreme Court who was maligned by liberal senators and who subsequently inspired the term “borked” for judicial nominees who are similarly attacked. This could help Mitt Romney among social conservatives who still aren’t sure about his pro-life credentials. Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) isn’t impressed though, based on a paper he wrote analyzing Bork’s judicial philosophy.
Last, but certainly not least, I have to talk about the wave of anti-Huckabee posts circulating the conservative blogs that can only be described as anti-endorsements. Moderate blogger Brendan Loy can’t stand the idea of an Edwards-Huckabee race in ’08, and in response the right-leaning Instapundit admits that he would consider voting for Edwards in such a situation, and would be even more likely to vote for Clinton or Obama. If that’s not enough for you, conservative academic Stephen Bainbridge lays out a concise yet comprehensive explanation for why he won’t be voting Huckabee.
One gets the sense that the Huckabee surge may actually be Republicans’ worst nightmare for the general election, but I bet it’s giving Howard Dean and the Clintons sweet, sweet dreams. Any chance the candidate’s electability (or lack thereof) might put the Huckabee wildfire on ice?

Of course, Rep. King’s endorsement of Fred- and the concurrent emphasis on illegal immigration- will be boosting Fred Thompson’s standing considerably in that primary. Not to mention his total commitment there in his ‘Clear Conservative Choice, Hands down’ tour until the causcuses.
Hey Mike, thanks for pointing out Congressman King’s endorsement of Thompson. I hadn’t caught it; too many endorsements flying around these days!
