I promise to stop soon with the endorsement blogging, but this one I just had to make note of here. Popular columnist and blogger Andrew Sullivan has endorsed Congressman Ron Paul for the Republican nomination. His endorsement has a lot to do with opposing the continuation of the Iraq War, but according to Sullivan there’s more to it:
But the deeper reason to support Ron Paul is a simple one. The great forgotten principles of the current Republican party are freedom and toleration. Paul’s federalism, his deep suspicion of Washington power, his resistance to government spending, debt and inflation, his ability to grasp that not all human problems are soluble, least of all by government: these are principles that made me conservative in the first place. No one in the current field articulates them as clearly and understands them as deeply as Paul.
But it’s not a complete love fest for Ron Paul. Continuing his process of elimination, conservative academic Stephen Bainbridge makes his case against Congressman Paul’s candidacy. Perhaps the most interesting of Bainbridge’s objections to Paul’s candidacy is his repeated reference to the heavy-handed tactics of Paul’s supporters. I agree that this is a problem for the Paul campaign, in that the immaturity of many of Paul’s supporters makes the Paul campaign itself – which is, after all, a grassroots campaign – look immature.

Mitt is crying again because Ron Paul raised $6 million dollars in one day (soon the entire GOP field will be crying as Dr. Paul wins. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between” Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like “America Deceived’ from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.

What Mr. Bainbridge apparently does not understand about Paul supporters is how it feels to be ignored when you have a legitimate grievance and would like a voice in the political discourse. Certainly our founding fathers felt that brand of frustration as they were alternately ignored and ridiculed by the British Crown. I am more persuaded by Mr. Sullivan’s assessment of the Paul candidacy.
Mr. Bainbridge can whine all he wants. Ron Paul’s supporters are passionate and determined, and their innovation and creativity is going to propel Ron Paul right into the White House.
Heavy handed, what tripe, just try to show up at one of Hillary Clinton’s managed and orchestrated campaign rallys being anything other than a stepford supporter and you get the boot in the pants by her hired security people. It’s on youtube.
Heavy handed, what I call heavy handed is the way the Republican Committee in San Francisco cancelled the straw poll because of the large turn out by Ron Paul supporters who would have obviously given the straw poll to Ron Paul instead of Fred Thompson. Also can be viewed on Youtube.
I suppose the Obama Girl was the height of maturity according to Mr. Bainbridge. What better way to further the discourse on the issues that face America than to have a T&A ad produced by one of your supporters.
Cut me a break.
Go Ron Paul and keep up the great work Ron Paul Re”love”utionaries!
A candidates supporters should not discount someone unless they are a special interest group who will receive special favors from that candidate when they take office. That would disqualify all other candidates except Ron Paul, whose supporters expect nothing from him but for him to keep his word, and of that we are not worried. A candidate should not be elected if they cannot be trusted to uphold their oath of office. That, too, disqualifies all candidates except Dr. Paul. In other words, Bainbridge is searching for any reason not to support Ron Paul and has nothing, so he criticizes Ron Paul’s supporters, who just happen to be freedom loving Americans of all stripes. Fortunately for America, Bainbridge gets one vote to cast, just like the rest of us. We’ll be casting our votes for Ron Paul and we won’t even have to take a shower afterwords.
Geez, I thought i supported doc paul because of his adherence to the constitution, which is still really the best deal around, and now I find out that I might be a nazi, because of all the other politically incorrect types that suppport mr paul. There must definitely be nazi lurking in my soul.
I will vote for Ron Paul because it only makes sense as he does.I will not vote for anyone else because to vote for anyone else would not make sense as they do not.
