Bush steps up the game against Iran

The much-rumored plans of attacking Iran appeared to have been put on hold in the second half of 2007. By fall, the talk of an Iran attack by Israel and/or the United States had almost come to a halt. George Bush, in his trip overseas to the Middle East, has stepped up the talk against Iran again.

“Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terror,” Bush said in a speech about democracy that he delivered about midway through his eight-day Mideast trip, which began with a renewed push for an Israeli-Palestinian peace pact – an accord he said whose “time has come.”

The President went on to criticize Hamas (though not by name) and called on Palestinians to reject the terror group which controls part of the Palestinian territory.

Bush also went on to be non-committal to the recall of the 30,000 surge troops that were put into Iraq last year.
