The Hillary machine gets to work

Hillary Clinton’s only hope to keep her campaign going against Obama is to attack him and to make herself appear the victim. As the Politico reports, Clinton appeared on Tim Russert’s Meet the Press yesterday to attack Obama and, as I said, make herself appear the victim.

One major point of attack that has been downplayed by the media (who prefer talking about Martin Luther King and race) is that Clinton has attacked Obama’s stance on the Iraq war. His comments made soon after the start of the Iraq war gives an impression that Obama was for the Iraq war at that point (though he said he was against such a war in 2002.) Flipflopping like that isn’t very healthy for truthful campaigns, according to Clinton, who herself voted for the war and then voted against it.

I think Clinton has shot herself in the foot on this campaign. The only real way she’s going to be able to secure the nomination is if she can completely sever Obama’s leg so she can at least manage to drag herself to the finish line. Before this is over it’s going to get dirty. I have a personal feeling that out of the ruins John Edwards is going to find some way to shine–that has to be the only reason he is staying in the race at this point.

  1. I’ve been reading about the anti-King comments reportedly made by Hillary, but I have yet to come across exactly what was said that caused all the commotion.

I do know that Barack is only beginning to carve out a legacy, and that he owes much of his success to the man I sing about in this tribute song, Martin Luther King, Jr.

  2. Race vs. gender war among the Dems? That will be pretty ugly. The Hillary machine doesn’t not how to do subtle, so look at things to get worse. Also, what happens if Obama pulls the popular vote, but Hillary uses the 40% super-delegates to win out the nomination? We might be seeing the ‘68 Chicago mess played out for different issues.

  3. I think Obama is winning more super-delegates at the moment. Kerry’s endorsement shows the Democratic establishment beginning to embrace him, which could pull those super-delegates away from Clinton–making them less of a deciding factor.
