In an effort to win the South Carolina primary, Mike Huckabee has backtracked on immigration. The former Arkansas governor has been hurting in South Carolina due to his immigration stance, being in the same boat as Senator John McCain.
Huckabee declared, by signing a new immigration pledge, to enforce the laws and eventually remove illegal aliens from the country. This is quite the contrary to what Huckabee has been saying over the years. Mitt Romney attacked Huckabee harshly in Iowa in an effort to win the state, and basically played politics around the questions asked in some interviews.
Taking a look at other quotes by Huckabee on immigration, you quickly learn that he is using the same talking points as many Democrats. Worthless statements such as “We need a secure border” and “We can’t just kick everyone out tomorrow” may sound comforting and logical, but in essence it means nothing. George W. Bush has used the same talking points on immigration over the past two or three years.
A Huckabee presidency is an assured amnesty, with no fix in sight.
