Virginia, D.C., Maryland - A Clean Sweep

Tonight, one Republican and one Democrat made a clean sweep of all the states up for grabs. John McCain and Barack Obama won with extensive margins in the states. What does this mean for Obama and McCain? For Obama this is most likely a statement to the Clinton Campaign saying,” Oh yeah, guess what? We’re the front runners now!” With a quite long win streak in the Senator’s column, he is the presumptive front runner for the Democrat party (for now at least). Clinton has her “Firewall” in the states of Texas and Ohio that carry a large delegate count, and in Texas, a high Hispanic voter turnout, which could help the Clintons quite a bit in their quest for the nomination.

For McCain, this is another step closer to closing the book on the Republican nomination. He is over the 800 delegate count and is extremely close to getting the nod from the Reps. His front-runner status is in cement now, and only some sort of major campaign melt-down would hinder his chances for the nomination. Although Huckabee can be expected to have a strong showing in Texas, he is all but finished in this race. He may not drop out, but really… he is far out of contention. Huckabee says he majored in miracles… He will sure need one to pull this off.

  1. A sweep (for Obama) is a beautiful thing indeed.
