In a Box

Some have said that our Marines feel good about their mission in Lebanon. But Alexander Ortega, in his letter home said: “I never knew how much I love America. I want to come home.” Soon after he wrote that letter, he came home — in a box. And for what?

  1. The poor definition of the Lebonese mission and ridiculous ROE (Rules Of Engagement) set by politicians rather than the military left most Marines shaking their head in wonderment long before the truck bombing took Ortega and 240 of his brethern. To not make adjustments and leave with a job unfinished was even worse.

Being my brother Cal probably helped identify what was left of Ortega as well as many of his other comarades, I think I have some grasp of the feeling of the day.
