What is wrong with Jeremiah Wright?
If Social Conservatives had any sense at all, they would ponder the meaning of the pastors message and not be so afraid of the words of one angry black man.
“The U.S. of KKK” - In the past, KKK activists have held political positions in State governments. They have been judges. They have been attorneys. They have been police officers. If you were a person of color in these places during these times, it would not be inaccurate at all to describe your country as the US of KKK. After all, what do you know of the world or country around you when you don’t have much opportunity to go further than your own back yard; if you are even fortunate enough to have a backyard that is. If this inflammatory rhetoric is meant to indict every white citizen for the sins of Americas past, then I would agree it is wrong and definitely over the line. However, if it is meant to empower an African American congregation to get them to stand up for social change because the government will not deliver them from all things evil, then I applaud the message. I applaud the message not only because my libertarian beliefs tend towards individual responsibility and less governmental intervention, but also because of the prejudiced mindset that most everyone in the black community is reliant on the government. Only a strong community can break down walls and stand tall to turn back oppression. If you are standing with both hands out to the government saying gimme gimme, your plight will not improve.
“God Damn the USA” - Maybe some of our problems are because God has turned his favor from us. But if this is so, it is not only because of our malice towards mankind evident in our foreign policy, but also our disaffection towards the unborn. It is because of our celebration of debauchery and everything unholy. As an example, how many sexual encounters on television, whether graphic or not, are between a husband and wife? Research has said it is less than 5%. I doubt that will come as a surprise to anyone.
As for a few other statements made that I am supposed to feel are deplorable, they happen to fall right in line with some other statements expressed by my favorite congressman Ron Paul. Maybe this surprises some of you because according to the media Ron Paul is a white racist.
JW - “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” RP - “They attack us because we’ve been over there. We’ve been bombing Iraq for 10 years.”
JW - “The government gives them [African Americans] the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ “ RP - “But if we had equal justice under the law, I think it would be a big improvement. If we had probably a repeal of most of the federal laws on drugs and the unfairness on how Blacks are treated with these drugs laws, it would be a tremendous improvement.”
While I don’t agree that the government created drugs to keep the black man down, I am not the least bit surprised that kids in high school know exactly where to go to buy drugs off the street but the local authorities somehow can’t find those same inner city blocks.
One question that should be asked is what is the position of Jeremiah Wright on abortion and what is Obama’s? The answer should lead you to the conclusion that Obama does not blindly follow his former pastor views in this case, and likely does not blindly follow his views on all others, whether they are voiced in an inflammatory manner or not. It should also lead Social Conservatives to be more critical of Obama’s religion because he has not denounced abortion , not even to the same degree as he denounced his former pastor.
Funny how I don’t remember much media attention given to Giuliani when Robertson endorsed him. Here is a man who has endorsed assassination for political objectives, implied that the State Department should be blown up with a nuclear device, has decried the feminist movement as “a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.” among many others. And you know what, when I listen to the meaning of some of his words I find some truth in them too.
It is time to get over this America. Jeremiah Wright is not on the ballot, not even as Obama’s VP.
We are all known by our associations, especially voluntary associations 20 years in length. Wright is a factor; how important, the voters need to decide. Giuliani did not attend Robertson’s church for 20 years; if he had, there would be an issue there as well. The Robertson endorsement of Giuliani should have received no more (and certainly no less) attention than Barack’s endorsement by the New Black Panther Party.
BTW: the person to ask about the KKK can be found in Barack’s party; Robert Byrd, who was a Grand Wizard in the day. Clean one’s own house first.
More depth to the controversy here:

Everybody’s right and no one is wrong.
That’s ALL it is about today. Never would I have thought that the 21st century would come to this, but why should I be surprised, we are human beings and we ALL believe our opinions are facts.
But as my granddad said, “opinions are like armpits, everybody’s got them and they all stink”.
Rev. Wright is a racist that is getting away with verbal MURDER on white americans!
He has made comments in the last 2 months that are 10 times worse that anything Don Imus has said in his entire carrier on the air.
He is doing NOTHING to bring this country together!
His speeches and sermons and point of view only fuel anger and hatred in blacks.
Only African American racist can say anything positive about Jerimaih Wrights statements.
Jeramiah Wright is every bit as bad as the Grand wizard of the KKK.
IF Obama ever had a chance to be President…Mr. Wright has CRUSHED that chance with his stupidity and arrogance.
Rev. Wright not only spoiled any chance Obama had at holding the Presidential office, but I believe he has ruined any remote chance in the next presidential election 4 years from now of ever being successfull.
You cant be president in the United States of America without gettting a significant part of the white vote (they are the majority) and Obama has lost the White vote in this country now.
All because of a STUPID preacher who can’t keep his racist mouth SHUT!
Jerimaih Wright claimed that he was being judged by the short “snippets” taken from his sermons (not just one sermon).
Well CNN gave him the floor with their coverage of his speeach at the NAACP luncheon Sunday. I watched the entire speech because I wanteed to give him the benefit of the doubt.
All he did was confirm what the snippets implied that he is a RACIST.
His is Pro Black and ANTI- White.
His words DIVIDE.
WHat does he think is going to happen when he mocks John F. Kennedy’s dialect (with sarcasm and arrogance)
Does he think Whites are goin to say: Oh we agree with you Please insult us some more!!
Does he think white are going to join in on his attacks on whites and say: Yes arent white people terrible human beings!!!
WHAT AN IDIOT!!
He needs to take a lesson on how to get things you want out of people you disslike.
The first rule is : Dont insult them!
The Second Rule: Concentrate on your simalarities and NOT your Differences.
The 3rd: Forget past dissagreements and insults and MOVE FORWARD!
I dont care if he disslikes white people but HOLY CRAP have some tactical strategy.
I think he demonstates exactly why blacks haven’t done a dame thing in this country or than fill our jails, strain and abuse our Welfare system and PLAGUE good hard working Americans.
Your exactly right.
Wright is a CLEAR racist. He claimes he is “patriotic” because he served in the military.
I promise you he served in the military because he didn’t have any money and probobly wanted to go to college.
So think about it….tax payers money most likely paid for this jerk to go to the college where he recieved a degree that he could flaunt around and claim that he has an “eduacated opinion” and use these credentials to bash the very people who eduacated him for FREE.
What a bastard!
He served in the US military…. the very organization he attacks today…EXPLAIN that?
He’s just like most people who get up in front of people once a week an tell others how to live their lives…hes a HYPOCRITE!
I WAS an Obama supporter until the Rev. Wright thing came about.
Unfortunately Rev. Wright Represents a large part of the Black community in this country.
They wont to blame anything and everything that is wrong in this country on WHITES.
They harp on the BAD.
In a few years there wont be ANY person alive who experienced slavery in the United States first hand be it a slave owner or slave
The vast majority of people white/black all agree that SLAVERY is BAD!
There are no working SLAVES today.
So stop reminding everyone about the NEGATIVES.
Concentrate on the POSITIVES!!
Hatred is destructive and Rev. Wrights hateful comments have destroyed any chance Obama had to be President of the US.
His words and comments set blacks back 25 years and that’s a shame.
The sad thing is… Wright thinks he doing blacks a favor by making these comments.
I think Rev. Wright is proof that ANYONE can get a college degree….not just intelligent people.
I think there was a certain level of inevitability here that Barack would eventially become an ‘identity politics’ candidate (which is a losing porposition in November), simply because his resume is just too thin to be anything else. Wright is serving as the trigger point, but the nature of the Democrat Party and his own light resume made it inevitable.
Ironically, the only party that could elect a minority in this country right now is the GOP. In that camp, you can’t form your following based on skin tone or gender.
