Global Warming Mania Now Offending Vets

Veterans of Iwo Jima, one of the toughest fights in American history, are outraged over a recent TIME magazine cover, using the famous flag scene, but this time, using a tree instead of a flag, since it was titled “How to win the War on Global Warming”:

The TIME editor stated that there needs to be an effort on the scale of World War II to stop Global Warming.

For only the second time in 85 years, Time magazine abandoned the traditional red border it uses on its cover. The occasion – to push more global warming alarmism.

I’m sick of global warming alarmism enough as it is. This winter saw some of the biggest snowfall totals in quite some time around the country. It has also been stated that the average yearly temperatures have not increased since 1998. And now they are moving on to promote antics like this one:

Donald Mates, an Iwo Jima veteran, told the Business & Media Institute on April 17 that using that photograph for that cause was a “disgrace.”

“It’s an absolute disgrace,” Mates said. “Whoever did it is going to hell. That’s a mortal sin. God forbid he runs into a Marine that was an Iwo Jima survivor.”

  1. To be offended over this picture is just ridiculous. I’ll bet those guys in that original picture would approve.I would say they would be first to step up to the plate and get something done…Maybe the “can do” generation is what we need back in this country! Instead of this politically correst BS… just ridiculous

I say that as a 100% disabled vet ..nam era!

  2. Just for the record, a large snowfall in one season does not prove or disprove any thing related to global warming. That is weather. Global warming is about climate.
Moreover, the world has warmed since 1998 (show me the study that says it hasn’t, because there are dozens who say it has). Whether that requires a WWII type effort to fix, or whether global warming will destroy us all is another story. You can believe the science behind climate change without thinking Manhattan will soon be under water. You can also believe the science without supporting Al Gore’s proposed solutions. Kyoto = bad idea, but that doesn’t mean global warming is a hoax.

  3. I think one guy is still alive that raised that flag.

  4. “I think one guy is still alive that raised that flag.”
I would love to see his reaction to this

  5. Fooser, I’m curious. Where do you stand on global warming? Is it a problem at all? Or do you think it’s all bad science?

Oh and just for the record, why are people who describe themselves as libertarians angry about a stupid cover of a magazine? Even if it’s offensive, so what? “Time” can do what they want, just like you can title you articles how you please.

  6. Considering the picture shown was not the original picture, but a repeat that was repeatedly used as a political prop to raise money for the war, I have a hard time treating this picture with a holy reverence and condemning Time.

Time is not underscoring the sacrifices made by soldiers at all in my opinion. Only suggesting that we treat this threat of global climate change with a seriousness that we treated the japanese during WWII.
