McCain, Hagee and the Politics of God’s Wrath

John Nichols at The Nation tried to show the differences between Hagee/McCain and Wright/Obama. His comparison makes a lot of sense…if you’re an Obama supporter. If you like Hagee, you’ll obviously object to it.

Indeed, it is far more reasonable to demand that McCain talk about where he agrees and disagrees with Rev. Hagee on questions about the causes of natural disasters and the response of a Republican administration to them than it is to ask Obama about the Rev. Wright’s statements.

Most Republicans were horrified at Wright’s comments. If you take the neocon premise, Wright was more or less saying “I hate America and I am a traitor to the country!” There just is not any sufficient grounds to try to ignore Wright and concentrate on Hagee. Nichols is an Obama supporter, I am sure, and is just looking for excuses to try to attack McCain. This isn’t to say Hagee is right, but Wright’s opinions are going to cause problems as well.

The McCain-Hagee connection will wait until after the Democrats have a nominee, so no use in wasting your breath on it now.

One Response to “McCain, Hagee and the Politics of God’s Wrath”

  1. McCain has specifically reputiated the ‘Sinful New Orleans’ view in the strongest terms; immediately when asked. He did so again in the last couple days in New Orleans, while blasting the administration for the Katrina response. (so much for being a ‘Bush mouthpiece’.)
