God Damn America!
I have had enough of people judging the reverend Jeremiah Wright in their own patriotic terms for a religious statement he made from the pulpit. Other articles and sources may point out the reverends service to America in the Marines, the Navy, and in medicine to defend his patriotism. In agreement with these views, I think when his service to America becomes more widely known it will prove the antagonists to be the fools that they are with their arguments being guided only by the prevailing winds of the time. Like the South Western wind that brings a smell of pigs to my semi-rural backyard, this discourse done for political gain has the stench of deceit, slander, spreading false witness, and unholy judging. After all,
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” Matthew 7
Appropriately, those making the claim of him being unpatriotic should have their own service to America put under scrutiny. Did they give up a student deferment to serve their country?
However, my frustration is not rooted in patriotism, race, or even political discourse for all these things including my nation are UNDER God. If you wish to truly understand the phrase “God Damn America”, you must lower yourself before God and realize that only he can judge our nation. Not the President, not Fox News, not the Supreme Court, not Sean Hannity, not Jereremiah Wright, and certainly not Barak Obama. If you wish to discuss the reverends statement on Americas actions and God’s judgment for America then open up your Bible and present your case. I welcome honest religious discussion on the statement because what I have heard is just ignorant political discourse on perceived patriotism. Does anyone believe a man of God should place the financial prosperity of a nation above its moral character? Is a man’s service to his country more important than service to his Lord? By understanding that our salvation is not based on our GDP growth, or the rise or fall of the NYSE, or having a victorious military, the reverend is preaching for the conviction of America that we may repent of our sins before we be judged.
As a Christian, I believe that our sins have to be punished to convict us of our wrong doings and cause us to repent so we can remove our separation from God. Asking God to bless a nation (”God Bless America”) who is walking further and further away from his teachings in the Bible is heretical. “Deliver us from evil” does not mean to allow us to spit in God’s face but please keep our pockets and cupboards full and enemies at bay. It means show us the true nature of the evil one that we serve to cause us to fall on our knees and beg for mercy.
As we watch the decline of America, an unrepentant nation, one can only wonder if we should be singing “God Damn America” because his judgment and an awakening of the moral character of America is the last chance we have before he completely turns his face from us.

This is also the man who thinks AIDS was deliberately created to attack blacks. One of the reasons we may be damned is the ever driving need to find someone else to blame, and Rev. Wright panders heavily to that.
All of this controversy is making people pick sides when they don’t have to. Becasue the reactions have been so harsh, writers take extreme positions and draw critics who do the same. Inflammatory language overtakes rational dialogue, and then we start calling each other names. Unnecessary.
I think we can take Wright as a generally good person despite some crackpot ideas. The fact that he is a former Marine does not make him a hero, and a couple crazy ideas don’t make him a villain. He is a complex, passionate leader who seems to speak before thinking. We should not ignore Wright’s comments, but we shouldn’t hold him accountable for everything he’s ever said. Most of us don’t judge ourselves or our friends that way.
And, when it comes down to it, though he has been a longtime advisor of Obama, it isn’t Wright that is running. If Obama’s resume wasn’t as thin as it is, this would be far less of an issue.
Love this post. My dad used say that America would pay a price for the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He believed in Divine Justice, and that God would punish us. You know I was thinking ’bout dear old Dad when I was standing on my stoop watching the towers burn.
I’m willing to give the Rev a break, in spite of my music rant on another post. Like many famous (emphasis on famous) men of the cloth, Rev Wright has a little bit of Mick Jagger in him (i.e., bigger than life performance talent), and that means he is apt to be a little over-the-top.

I agree wthat Obama has a thin resume and that the media will jump on whatever material it has. In Obama’s case, that can mean their talknig about his pastor. Here’s why I’m curious: Hilary Clinton has dozens of ties to horrible donors. Her husband pardoned people who donated to his campaign. Why don’t people talk about her bad ties?
I am NOT, repeat, am NOT claiming the media is biased against Obama. They love him. I do have a inkling, however, taht the media is biased against substantial reporting. They talk about fringe, exotic issues like Reverand Wright instead of boring issues like how bad some of Obama’s solutions for the country are. I know this keeps getting repeated, but lets talk substance. There’s enough, even with Obama.
