Pax Americana and the Fall of Rome

I just finished reading the Newsweek article that was touted everywhere as something special: “The Post-American World“. It is a good article that really shows how capitalism has advanced in other countries while we in the United States have been holding ourselves back–now other countries are beginning to catch up. Not all, but many, and the number will only increase.

This really reminded me of a book I read earlier this year, “Are We Rome?“. That book really goes into a lot of detail that corresponds to the Newsweek article. America is not “falling like Rome” in any exact sense, but there are striking similarities and patterns that have emerged, showing the slow demise in the power of the American state. Will America ever be replaced? I don’t think so, Rome never truly “fell”–there was no more emperor in Rome, but the Holy Roman Emperor and also the Pope continue the legacy.

America will never truly crumble, but it will slowly fade away over the next century and beyond, unless some things change in this country. Things no politician can change.
