Time to Predict the VP Candidates
Posted on May 10, 2008 by Mike O
The GOP has an advantage here in picking last and can adjust to what Obama does.
Personally, I think Hillary is a non-starter here: the campaign has been too nasty, Barack doesn’t want the dynamic duo’s negatives, and I think I can conVince you that Michelle Obama Fosters serious reservations obout Hillary being one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Naturally, there are counter-arguments.
My picks:
- Obama goes with Bill Richardson (a good choice)
- McCain counters with Kay Bailey Hutchinson (even better politically).

I still thinks it going to be
Hillary /Obama ticket ……. I know I know I’ll come back down to earth soon.
Just a bit premature Mike E
lets let the others vote first. Just a few more states to go, hold your horses.
I think Obama / Richardson would be solid
As for McCain, this is wishful thinking on my part, since he is the only man that will make me even consider supporting the McCain ticket, and that is: Mark Sanford (you know .. a true conservative)
Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona is a strong possibility. And I do like Richardson. Hillary, I don’t believe will be picked by Obama. It would overshadow n Obama Presidency especially with the “2 for 1 special” you get with the Clintons. I still favor Colin Powell very much. So many good reasons that are not political. But politically it makes the Obama/Powell ticket a landslide winner. The gravitas that he brings to the table is unmatched. But I don’t believe it will happen.
I smell McCain/Lieberman.
Norm - you said it yourself “I’ll come back down to earth soon.”
Fooser - Obama Richardson is solid I agree. I hope that Mark Sanford has enough decency to stay away from McCain.
Reading - Two black men? Honestly. Gravitas? I am not a democrat but I would have a lot of resentment for the one person who was supposed to be the voie of reason for the Iraq war but ended up being the clincher for bringing the democratic senate on board.
McCain Lieberman? H.S. if that happens but I wouldn’t be upset because I am hoping for a collapse of the GOP to start over right which is what would happen.
I would love an Obama/Richardson ticket. Quiero un presidente quien habla espan~ol, but… I have the following issues with an Obama/Richardson ticket…
1 Richardson has made several hits at being anti-gay and anti-trans, which is inexcusable to me
2 Richardson is a Meican Latino, and while I would LOVE to have a latino president, I am aware that many US Americans are having a hard time imaging a black man as President, having two minorities on this ticket does not help their chances (although I am 100% IN FAVOR of either of these men being in the office) strategically it doesn’t make sense.
I don’t think he can pick Hillary for reasons already noted. Strategically I think Obama needs to pick someone from PA, Ohio, Florida or Michigan because of their swing status, and to regain support in disenfranchised FL/Michigan.
I would love for a woman in the White House, but the “two minorities” again would be a hard ticket to sell in a nation still has too many sexist, racist, homophobic voters.
All that said, I don’t have any specificsuggestions…. an Obama/Edwards ticket was my prediction when I saw the first debate last summer, but I don’t see that happening.
