Who’s Not Ready for Primetime?
OK: Even I know about the mess that is the Hanover site. And I wasn’t in the Senate voting billions of dollars toward its cleanup. Ironically, neither was McCain (who missed the vote when HR passed the Senate 95-0). But if this is the level of the two candidates knowledge and preparation, then November may become a slam dunk.
To me, the scary part is that the Obamatrons actually applaud his display of stupidity; what, for its honesty?? Are they going to give him a standing ovation if he comes out while the radioactive mushrooms are blooming to say he didn’t know that was what that button was for??
As for tonight’s results, the total popular vote loss of over 100,000 150,000 by Obama, as well as a dozen 15 or so delegate deficit for the day. Not exactly a march of triumph and unity by the Democrats. He’ll cross the finish line of this death march ahead of Hillary, but he’ll have quite a political limp as he does.

Let’s call them “reflexive Republicans”. They put me in the mind of Artie, a guy who bought Chevys, because his dad bought Chevys. It was an unquestioned article of faith in his family. Once, while he was moaning a litany of how many things were wrong with his brand new truck along with the numerous deficiencies of the dealer’s service department, who would typically take his list of 3 things to be fixed and expand it to 5 each visit, I suggested that the next time he might consider a Ford or a Dodge truck. After we scotch-taped the top of his skull back onto his head, he explained that he could never buy a Ford or Dodge, because they built crappy trucks. I noted that, to the casual listener, it sounded like he had a crappy truck already. His reply? “At least it’s a Chevy.”
And this year I keep running into Republicans who remind me so very much of Artie. They’ve pretty much quit talking about McCain at this point, except when they contort themselves into the explanation of how Clinton will be a much stronger candidate against McCain in November. In fact, the two camps who seem to see Clinton as the best chance of the Democratic party apear to be Clinton supporters and Republicans who hate John McCain. I can only guess why.
In 2004, John Kerry was one state from unhorsing The Shrub. I suspect he might have gotten that state, and maybe more, had he run as a Democrat instead of as “Republican Lite”. I think the moderately engaged voters are the key to close elections. Many of these voters have no party affliliation; those who do aren’t cultish about it. These folks are going to vote for what they consider the more “real” candidate. I suspect McCain will appear to be a “Democrat Lite” to those voters.
I think the “reflexive Republicans” may see their party’s best chance of holding the White House being a race against the “Republican Lite” candidate who also happens to be one of the most devisive figures in recent American politics. The two “lite” effects will cancel each other out, and the woman they love to hate will energize the base, who will then turn out on election day, hold their noses, push the button for McCain, mentally paraphasing Artie: “At least he’s a Republican”.
Level of preparation? Let’s see, McCain had heard of it, but clearly was trying to shake the cobwebs. Yeah, I’m convinced now. Obama is completely unqualified to be president. Not only does he not wear a flag pin, he can’t recite the list of every Superfund site in the US from memory. Jimmy Carter was a very smart man, but he was a failed president because he got too deep into the weeds. I don’t want a micro-manager for president. I want a guy who is going to run foreign policy out of the State Department instead of DoD. Yeah, at this point I’m a single-issue voter, because it’s a crucial issue to anyone who wants to save what left of our republic.
Here’s a list of just a few of Barack’s ‘not ready for primetime’ moments. Nothing to do with flag pins, but a lot to do with the blinders many of his followers seem to wear. Add this to his stunning policy naitivity and this goes beyond ‘empty suit’ to the land of the Emporer with no clothes.
Maybe if the Republicans didn’t nominate a guy who already has a presidential race grave dug out for him, some of this would matter.
You talk alot of trash about Obama, but I’d argue that’s he’s been fighting a pretty strenuous battle for the nomination all along. Meanwhile, McCain has been having it a little easier (though, only a little) without his own party beating on him. Once things do hit primetime, he’ll have some serious questions to answer as well.
Sure, Obama isn’t perfect - he’s a politician alright - but he didn’t dump his wife for a rich cheerleader nor does he tolerate an association with John Hagee. ‘Obamatrons,’ as you sophomorically call his supporters, may place undue faith in their candidate, but ‘McCainiacs’ do the same.
I got that nickname from McCain’s appearance at a pro-wrestling event (a shameful moment for our democracy, both parties). :)
