One of the silliest things about Al Gore’s and his army of drones is they look at CO2- and Earth’s handling of it- as a static entity on a dead planet. They have never gotten it through their heads that what this particular waste product of civilization is plant food. This particular piece is on the natural result of that. Not that we don’t need to reduce our footprint through reasonable approaches, but the hair-pulling, end-of-the-world hysteria makes our globe-trotting Savior of Gaia and his ilk look like perfect buffoons.
Al Gore’s arrogant error is to think that he’s smarter than Mother Nature. Give us about two more record cold winters due to lack of solar activity, and maybe the fallacy of his arrogance will start to soak into his pea brain.

Have you ever been to one of Al Gore’s speeches? I suspect not. Lots of people will moan and moan about his “doom and gloom” politics when they haven’t even heard his message. Who are the drones, the ones who consider what the man has to say or those who shout “you’re wrong” over and over again with their fingers plugged in their ears?
And what adjective shall we use to describe someone who believes they know more than the overwhelming majority of climate scientists?
Anyone who denies that A) life forms impact their environment and B) allowed to overbalance, any life form will create an environment toxic to itself, is either scientifically impaired or has a hidden agenda (maybe both)
Global climate change is real, but it’s not a problem; it’s a symptom. The problem is overpopulation. The solution is politically untenable under any form of government.
I’m rooting for the bird flu as the last best hope of mankind. If that can drop us down into to 3 – 4 billion range, we may not go extinct in the immediate future. (For the purposes of this discussion, the immediate future is the millenium or so.)
You mean the overwhelming majority of scientists who play the funding game, the ones adding to this list? Like they’ve done for decades with AIDS, talking about the vaccince just around the corner and the assured heterosexual pandemic that will sweep the globe? Like those, who ar now admitting we have been in a cooling phase for the last decade?
Even your use of ‘climate change’ is laughablly politically correct, since ‘global warming’ is now passe. Of course, ‘climate change’ is real; it’s previous name was ‘weather’. The debatable point is how much if any we are responsible for and whether we have overrun the natural tendency for correction. In terms of CO2 output, this article suggests we haven’t.
Rooting for half of the current human population to die and not control it’s own population itself? Well, half would be either me or you so, since you’re the one concerned about it, you’re welcome to volunteer. But that would make it too real for you, wouldn’t it? Not just a bunch of people far away, with a different skin tone and different language. As you are fully aware, it would be- and has been- very real to me. Unfortunately for you, the bird flu is turning out to be more of a bust than AIDs has, in terms of your ‘final solution’.
Ryan: no not lately; just heard enough of his public commentary and seen enough clips of the movie, etc. Since he doesn’t allow the press or public to see him anymore without some organization putting up his huge fee, I’m not likely to either. He’s fallen into a category even below money-grubbing evangelicals when it comes to ‘free speech’. I’m not the one shouting ‘proven science’ and refusing to meet those who would actually debate the counter arguements, like I do here. It’s Al who secludes himself and disappears from public sight during record winters.
Are you going to self-infect yourself with bird flu via a shot today Lamont? If humanity is a virus, then do the right thing.
Lamont, I was really disturbed by your comments here:
No sir. Wishing death upon that many people is absolutely horrifying. I’ve thought of you as a pretty cool person, but if you’re going to suggest something like that, I have to suggest “why don’t you just get rid of yourself by taking the first plunge?”
Capitalism and human intelligence have created a world where more than 6 billion people can live comfortably with a higher standard of living than any other time in the history of the planet. Global warming has little to do with mankind–especially since temperatures have not risen since 1998. It is largely a problem that stems from the earth’s natural processes, as well as the sun.
Remember, Lamont, that most scientists work in some form for the GOVERNMENT. When the government pays their salaries, the scientists will be biased towards coming up with results that increase government power. In this case, global warming. It has nothing to do with the environment but instead everything to do with power.
Reading Lamont’s comments made me think of an old button from the early seventies that read “People Pollute”. Later in life I learned that beavers could fuck up an eco-system, albeit “naturally”, just as bad as humans. I’m all for clean air, and I’m glad we got the lead out of the gas, but I’m with Mike — we’re just as likely to have another ice age as we are to have another great flood (i.e., polar ice cap meltdown/global warmup). To mangle James Carville’s mantra, “it’s the sun, stupid”.
The great red spot on Jupiter, a storm that has been raging for four hundred years, has spawned (or been joined by) two lesser spots. Big climactic upheaval on the gas giant. Mars’ ice caps are reported to be melting also. It must be the damn SUV’s all the Martians and Jovians are driving.
One more thing, I tried reading Al Gore’s original In The Balance tome ten years ago. I was very interested in the topic and am a voracious reader, but I couldn’t get through it. Even his ghost-writers are boring.
I find it highly disturbing anyone on this site every perceived me as “cool”. Happily, it appears I’ve taken care of that.
I hate to break this one to you, but my desires have nothing to do with it. Whether anyone likes it or not, all 6.5 billion people on this planet are going to die. The question is, will we die and be born at rates that impact the survival of the species positively or negatively?
6 billion (closer to 6.5, actually) people are living “comfortably” on this planet? Either I’m observing the wrong planet, or someone else is observing a non-representative sample of the right planet.
I’m going to die, soon in cosmic terms, as will all of you. Does that help?
Yes Mike, most scientists work for or are funded by the government (NOT). Weather and climate are the same thing (NOT). Words matter, so do facts.
Nothing good ever comes from fear of death. What is your priority, your own life, or the survival of the species?
If I don’t piss you off, I’m not doing my job. Looks like my work here is done.
In 1800, the English were convinced their island was overpopulated. There were only about 8 million people living there. Because of capitalism and industrialization, over 60 million people now live on that island and it still isn’t overpopulated.
There are problems in some countries with “overpopulation”, mostly India and China, but take a look around their countries with Google Earth. The vast amount of space still isn’t populated, they just have too many people in the cities thanks to government policies.
With a completely unrestricted market, the needs of billions would be met and their standard of living raised even higher. In the long run I expect world population to top off if what has happened to the West with lower birth rates eventually happens everywhere else. Either way, there’s no reason to say the world is truly overpopulating. Any overpopulation problems are because of government restricting people from meeting their own needs.
Which is fine Lamont, except painful death via disease isn’t the “last hope”, or even the better one. I apologize for not remembering the name, but there is the stage model, which is used in sociology, regarding demographic change through pre-industrial, industrial, and post-industrial societies. The problems are in the middle stage (where China and India are), where death rates and miscarriages decline, birth rates go up. We’re in the post-stage, where we can’t even maintain our numbers (see: Europe). Getting them to that stage ASAP is key.
That’s the best hope.
Sorry, Lamont; but most research on climatology is indeed funded by the government. And it is the eco-cultists confusing weather and climate, not me.
Fear death, Lamont? Sorry, but I’ve lived around death for a lot longer than you have, chump; I’d watched a dozen people die while on a CPR team and I’ve seen things in Africa that would curl you up in a fetal position. And going there is certainly not amenable to a long life.
If you think eco-cultism is worth it, you’re welcome to eat a bullet for it and we’ll write up a nice memorial for you here. Walk the walk, if you’re going to talk the talk.
