UPDATE: Silly Season Theater to return for encore performance on Monday. The GOP knows a good thing when it find one; as long as people like Pelosi, Reid, and Jack3566 keep making the arguments for the other side, the GOP will continue to gain ground on this one. They should have been on this one long ago, but better late than never; even when it’s for crass political gain, being right on a point is still being right.
THE HOUSE GOP REFUSES TO GO HOME!
The took over the floor of the House, giving speeches in regards to the ‘do-nothing’ energy policy of Pelosi and Reid. Pelosi had the cameras, mics and lights turned off: didn’t matter with portable cameras generating Twitter video. The gallery filled up with tourists cheering on the show and the content of the speeches. The Capitol police are moving in as I write this; what grand theater! Just what’s needed to fire up the GOP base and independents tired of the Do-Nothings in charge of Congress. The videos of this will be devastating! Michelle Malkin has got the coverage here and here and here!
Drill here! Drill Now!
UPDATE: The GOP Rebels called it off at 5pm; they should have kept it going until the police dragged them out. Still, these troublemakers should be put in charge of the entire GOP, who have been amazingly gutless of late. Video of ending news conference is here.
The assembled tourists, aides and members in the chamber gave Price and his compatriots a standing ovation. They left the chamber to shouts of “USA! USA! USA!”

A possible turning point
Probably not.

The GOP had 7.5 years to drill. Did they ever? Did they fight for common sense in 2002 or 2003 or 2005? NO! Because they are part of the problem. They are on the same team as the democrats. They just wear a different mask, er, uniform.
Was it not Bush Sr. who put on the executive order banning drilling in the first place?
Unquestionably, the GOP has not been very forward-thinking themselves and Bush I is indeed the idiot who put the executive piece of the ban on himself. But what was the price of and supply situation for gas at the time? China and India were consuming far less.
Price will work on demand to the detriment of economies; just ask our auto manufacturers at the moment. Increased supplies are indeed required as a stop gap until practical alternatives are scaled up. These GOP Congresspeopl recognize this Pelosi and Reid certainly don’t seem to.
So how about we say: “you can drill the national parks and refuges AFTER you drill out the 80 million acres you are holding back now, and when you drill the parks and refuges, you do it without subsidies and tax breaks and you provide an adequate trust fund for disaster cleanup in case another Exxon Valdez happens.”
Seems reasonable to me.
Being the Nature is providing over 63% of the oil in the ocean through natural seepage, and long-range transport pollutes more than domestic production, it actually make environmental sense to produce domestically.
By that reasoning, it is hard to see FAR north Alaska as “domestic” and the natural seepage is not causing anything like the Valdez problem.
But that is a distraction: the 80 million acres is “domestic,” so I take it you agree.
Another question: Would it not make more sense to burn up middle east oil now and save our “domestic” oil for later when we are really really REALLY going to need it? Like when the Chinese have gotten all that is left in the middle east under long-term contract. Unless you want to postulate infinite supply.
And continue to pour cash at people who don’t like us much; into places like Nigeria, the Middle East, and elsewhere in the Third World with their outstanding record of environmentally sensitive development? Going to China to cough out your lungs for the Olympics, Jack?
Come on, Jack; try to throw some hard stuff here; regurgitating Pelosi’s and Reid’s weak tea doesn’t quite cut the mustard.
So we should use ours up and then go hat in hand begging them to let us have some?
That’s a great strategy only if you postulate infinite supply or the near term rapture.
You dodged the infinite supply angle, so rapture?
Jack, your talking points are not what we hear coming from Pelosi’s mouth. Thank God Obama is coming around and talking sensibly about offshore drilling.
Indeed, they are not. And why would you expect them to be?
I support the impeachment of Pelosi.
