Never think Putin is NOT the one in charge, either.
Excuse me? I didn’t know that getting one’s ‘hands spanked’ involves bombing apartment buildings and airports well outside the contested area, and demanding that the democratically elected government to ’step down’. Do you really think this is the end of Putin’s attempt to regain the entire Soviet Union again?
Not to mention, poisoning the Ukrainian president earlier, poisoning another opponent with radioactive material and restart flying the bombers again, buzzing Guam and one of our aircraft carriers. And you worry that McCain is crazy??
“Hey, it was just Czechoslovakia; he’ll be happy with that.”
Barack dealing with Putin?? The result would make a Pomeranian against a junkyard Doberman seem like a fair match.
But McCain- actually conversant in military logistical matters- knows we can’t effectively intervene ourselves. All one has to do is look at the map to realize the difficulties.

Yeah, Putin is crazy. Viewing a country as being against his interests, demanding regime change, then invading even though it is of no threat to them. Oh wait …
Slight difference here; Georgia had a democratically elected government; it is led by the people. Saddam hardly was that and was a threat to the region. Who the heck was Georgia threatening, especially since the new government ended the more serious persecution in the restive regions?
I know such distinctions are not important to you, Fooser, or the fact that- should the Russians take over the whole country- the Georgians will have far less freedom than before. But I think the Iraqis and Georgians could describe the difference to you, since you have no such experience.
Apparently Mike speaks for Georgians and Iraqis, just like McCain speaks for all Americans.
Again, what the hell difference does it make what the country’s government type is in regards to waging a war? Why stop at government, why not feel more justified in attacking a country based on religion, or the color of their skin?
Georgia not only threatened people, they reportedly killed roughly 2,000 people including Russian security forces before Russia came in and put an end to it by slapping their hand and their face for doing it.
The BBC’s Richard Galpin, at a police checkpoint about 20km from the capital on the Tbilisi-Gori road, said he had seen a column of about 60 Georgian military vehicles, including troop carriers and at least two anti-aircraft guns, heading in the direction of Gori.
A source travelling with the column said it was going into a South Ossetian village. The Georgians said they were “on a humanitarian mission”.
Yeah, it’s easy to have democratically elected government when you put political dissidents in jail.
By the way military service should be a #1 automatic disqualification for the president. It only sets up Caesars.
I don’t think it should disqualify, but we certainly had some bad military presidents ..
Teddy
Grant
But then there were some good ones: Andrew Jackson, Ike, etc
Right, but better not to take the chance. Back in the day they were constrained because people still had respect for law. It’s getting out of hand these days. The right Napoleon could step up and it’s all over.
That is why we should have State Militias to hold back the federal army should it become a miswielded weapon.
Putin is nuts, blaming the US for the conflict. First of all, that is the last thing the US would want since we are already overstretched and if we wanted a conflict we would have armed the georgian with weapons that would have given them javelin’s and stingers and Russia would just looked stupid trying to enter the country.
