John McCain’s first major decision is a major blunder selecting Governor Plain Sarah

A Presidential candidate’ s first major decision is the selection of a Vice-Presidential running mate. Generally speaking, it should be neutral. It is rarely a positive move for the top of the ticket, but it should never hurt the top of the ticket.

John McCain committed the ultimate political error and what will be known as the “great blunder” in selecting Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin. This choice certainly shocked the political world.

Transpose the letters “a and l” in Palin’s last name and you have “Governor Sarah Plain” or as I like to say, “Plain Sarah.” There is no question that she has a compelling and interesting personal story. One major problem with this choice is her lack of visibility. A Presidential campaign is not the time to introduce someone to the American people. There is a little over two months left to the General Election and if the focus will be on “Plain Sarah,” that is an unnecessary distraction for the Republicans. If McCain wanted to name an unknown such as Governor Plain Sarah, he should have done it several months ago to give the American people time to get to know her. The word is that McCain made a snap decision on Thursday night and that is not advisable for such a major decision. That is a preview of how a President McCain will make his decisions. Snap, last-minute decisions that will affect the fate of the country and the world on an impulse and without thought.

McCain’s selection of “Governor Plain Sarah” will go down with such memorable selections as Dan Quayle who likely stopped George H.W. Bush from a second term. There was Geraldine Ferraro who was selected as Walter Mondale’s selection, although I am not sure any selection would have defeated Ronald Reagan for a second term. House member are generally poor choices because of their low-profiles. Another such example was in 1964 when Barry Goldwater selected Congressman William Miller.

What is truly amazing about McCain’s choice were the people he didn’t select. The strongest and most threatening candidate to the Democrats would have been formhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifer Governor and Homeland Security czar, Tom Ridge, would have been a candidate that would have given Obama/Biden a run for the Presidency. Mitt Romney would have been interesting, although it is a good idea not to select someone you don’t personally like or get along with (we are told McCain cannot stand the sight of Romney). My God, if McCain really wanted to name a women to negate some of this Hillary Clinton stuff, he really missed his chance by not selecting Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. No one can question Hutchinon’s experience or qualifications. She has great experience and is highly qualified for the job. And she is a strong Southerner.

As a strong, Barack Obama partisan, I say to John McCain: thank you and good luck. Reading on Walden Bookstore.

    From the Mudflats.

  2. The author there seems to be a big Obama activist in Alaska; not a good idea to take advice from the opposition.

  3. Facts are facts, even when they come from the opposition.

In her case the opposition seems to contain as many republicans as democrats.

No properly vetted candidate should have this kind of garbage in her/his baggage.

What else could be in there?

  4. Facts such as yours from rearranging her name? Saying her popularity dropped on the pipeline issue without stating it fell from 90% to 80%?

I thought Kay would have been a great choice too; but she’s not available for two reasons; the need to keep to GOP filibuster group in the Senate and the fact she wants to run for Governor of Texas in 2010. I don’t doubt it was offered to her and she turned it down for these specific reasons.

‘The garbage in her past’ and you’re an Obama supporter?? Need I mention Rezko, Wright, Ayers, and a lack of medical records or even a state-released birth certificate? And he’s the top of your ticket.

  5. The venom that’s been going around .. she must’ve been a good pick.

  6. Rezko or Keating?

The Rezko deal has found to be innocent
    (and you know that)
    Rezko was MUCH LATER charged
    (and you know that)
    and convicted of OTHER charges
    (and you know that, too).

Keating paid bribes to McCain and McCain hid it on his taxes, engaging in tax fraud HIMSELF. But the only thing he was charged with was failure to report the income from the bribes on senate disclosure. Not for taking bribes nor for tax fraud. I wonder who he bribed to make that happen?

    Wright or Hagee?

Both of them are nutcases. But McCain is an Episcopalian. Oh, wait, make that Baptist. Oh, sort of…

Ayers, not personally known by Obama, or Cindy, the embezzler and drug addict in McCain’s bedroom, who was never charged for her crimes? Like John himself. Oh bye the way, Cindy was also the one who “lost” some critical records from the Keating scandal. How convenient. Add co-conspirator to Cindy’s adjectives.

Records? Where are the Keating records? Where are shrub’s records?

And then there is Vicki Iseman, the pretty lobbyist on the bus with the self confessed serial adulterer.

And he is at the TOP of your ticket, with this creationist beauty queen bimbo as VP. Miss Congeniality indeed.

  7. Hello,

I watched Meet the Press and heard the promotional of Sarah Palin. However, what I don’t understand is why did they send in the low level, of the Republican tier, if the base is so excited?

Another thing, where are the big endorsements from prominent Republican members such as: Newt, Pat Buch, George Bush (41 especially, and, 43) Karl Rove, Rice, Cheney? And, the brigade of high ranking Republican military to solidify her “readiness”. Just to name a few players. What happened to morning Joe’s Scarborough this morning promoting her? No American wants to watch 3 day coverage of a hurricane, all day long. We can, ourselves, go to the internet and get up-to-date info on the storm.

Basically, the Republican Party has realized McCain blew it with this choice. Nobody, is buying this hard sell. The internet is a-buzz because mainstream media is running scared of their bosses. There has been no oposing viewpoint on any media channel since the announcement. We Americans are loving this. It’s pure power. We can go from site to site, sourcing out our own material and sharing it with others in our social groups. With this being a holiday weekend, and because of what I described above, we can circulate our own media bias whatever that may be.

In my fact finding research most Alaskian Newspapers (I was reading for an entire day, it was that extensive); as an Independent, voter I found out:

She has ethics and judgment problems - 1.) Questions about the baby, high risk pregnancy, her behavior when faced with labor out of town, etc. 2.) HIGHLIGHT: To use a special needs baby campaigning is extremely poor judgment. What does her husband do? Every report is–has worked for, or seasonal. What does that mean…sits home, lives off his wife, pumps out babies and watches his wife work herself to death? She’s either on her back or her feet working. This picture sends the wrong message to our sons and daughters.

Maybe, you should give us clarity by doing a investigative story on him so voters can have all the facts.

  8. I guess in the wacked out line of thinking used to discredit Sarah’s candidacy, McCain should have picked a professional politician with a name, some grey hair and a record of accomplishment for the people, someone like, well, like Ted Stevens! That’s what we need, a VP on the right to match the experience of the Veep candidate on the left.

Lets NOT bring any new blood into Washington ,because we’ve been doing so well with professional politicians for the last 20 years! What we need is someone from INSIDE the system to bring about CHANGE. Yeah, that’s the ticket, Moron.

  9. [...] (including a couple on the site) scoffed at McCain’s judgement in choosing Palin, calling it a major blunder and contemputous, similar to Caligula’s horse.  Well, 10 days later, we have this from the [...]
