Some Blunder

Many people (including a couple on the site) scoffed at McCain’s judgement in choosing Palin, calling it a major blunder and contemputous, similar to Caligula’s horse.  Well, 10 days later, we have this from the Poll of Polls:

Obama has been forced to attack the second slot for the GOP, totally throwing him off-message.  And he has done so ineffectively, bringing up earmarks he and Biden voted for, even refusing to divert them to Katrina aid.  An earmark even the Alaska Democrat Party credited Palin for killing. Obama earmarked nearly a million a day since getting into office; not the kind of house to throw bricks in.  Obama is also making the mistake of coming across contemptuous and- dare I say arrogant- using phrases like ‘up and comer’ and ‘moose shooter‘.  He must really think he doesn’t need ANY of ‘flyover country’ or working moms.

Add to this the fact that foregoing public financing is turning out to be a serious mistake, it’s not McCain’s judgment that is questionable.

Then again, Instapundit is correct that Palin is hardly the Second Coming; the Right needs to keep from making the mistake the Left did in that regard.  But she’ll do fine.

  1. As long as Palin continues to read from the teleprompter and not have a conversation about issues with reporters or even casual talks with ordinary citizens, she’ll be fine. But as Joe Louis used to say, “You can run, but you can’t hide.” Flush her out.

  2. You mean like when the teleprompter got badly out of position during her RNC speech, the biggest speech she’d ever given? We all know how that turned out for the VP nominee. While the top of the Dem ticket’s performance without a functioning teleprompter is as well documented. Not that important, either way.

Getting her to meet the ‘ordinary citizens’ does not necessarily include the Code Pink types who charged the stage during her RNC speech and almost got on it (again, that didn’t fluster her). She is meeting them at campaign events all over the country, with every GOP congressional candidate begging for her to come to their district.

As for reporters: by all means, let’s bow down to the unelected would-be kingmakers before the voters themselves. They are so much more important than the unwashed masses /sarc. As one person noted, commenting on the MSM wondering how a mother of 5 can do this (never questioning the father of 5), they haven’t earned that interview yet. Still, she’s got one coming up on ABC in the next day or so.

Flush her out? If you can find her among the ten of thousands that appear at her every stop.

BTW: How will Obama do in those town hall style debates coming up? I forgot! He’s refusing to submit himself to the ‘unwashed masses’ in that format! The top of the Dem ticket, on the trail for years, won’t let unvetted citizens ask the questions.

  3. Dems are WAAAYYYYY off point lately. I have never seen so much anger, contempt, ridicule, scorn, you name it, as the decision to put Palin on the ticket. If she is such a bad choice for the Republicans then why are you the ones who are so angry? You should be glad. I can’t stress how badly the democrats behavior and infatuation with finding something to pin on Palin will be their downfall. Keep it up though, it’s your own party your ruining.

  4. Sure, I dig that. I definitely don’t want to say that anything is always the case. I enjoyed the article
