The Walker did the Walking

According to Boehner, McCain’s little break in the campaign wasn’t just for show:

What did the delay and negotions accomplish?  It eliminated a huge slush fund for various groups like Acorn, for one.

The Frank-Dodd proposal created an affordable housing slush fund and directed 20 percent of net benefits from the program to be directed to ACORN-type organizations.  The proposed compromise does not include any affordable housing slush fund and directs all net benefits back to the Treasury to pay down the national debt.

Also out:

A provision to allow trial judges to arbitrarily adjust mortgages, creating bonanza for trial lawyers

Worth taking a day or so break in the campaign for.  And what did Obama accomplish in the meantime…. (or ever?)

BTW: I still vehemently oppose the bailout as a disaster for the country; unfortunately, no one in power is listening.  But at least McCain’s action knocked 20% off the disaster. And rest assured; with Fortis going belly-up today (and getting a 3-nation bailout), the American market would have tanked tomorrow if a deal wasn’t announced.  No guarantee it won’t, anyway.

  1. I wholeheartedly disagree with the bailout, but I agree that all profits should be restricted to lowering our debt. That is a very good move.
