UPDATE: According to the latest poll numbers from AP, the General cannot. Other polls say different, but there is still serious concern by Dem insiders in places like Pennsylvania. And I was reminded that Gore was up by 11 at this point in 2000; Obama is more dependent on the under-performing 20-29 brack, but he can count on a huge surge in dead voters that he bought from ACORN to compensate. Only Nov. 4th matters; the rest is window-dressing.
Well, the ‘poll of polls’ at RealClearPolitics shows Obama’s 8% lead falling to 5% after the Chosen One lost out to a plumber in a discussion of economic philosophies. Hopefully, a distinguished general and former Secretary of State can add enough brainpower to the Harvard grad to come up with better arguments that can counter the intellectual damage done by Wurzelbacher.
Of course, commercials like this one of the affiliated GOTV groups- amusing at a high school level- might not set too well with the Middle America types in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other key states. Of course, discourse like this doesn’t seem to bother Gen. Powell for some reason:
They’ll just have to come up with more voters from the cemetaries to compensate for this one.

Umm, as of today (Oct 21), the poll of polls has Obama ahead on a national average of 7.2%.
Watching the polls daily bounce is like watching the Dow — yoiu can always find a day when your worst fears (or elation) is reinforced. The long-term trend is more important than daily fluctuations.
Creeping back up again. Not quite the 8% it was, but close enough. We’ll see how it holds up. They are starting to sweat in places like Pennsylvania, though, which supposedly is a lock. Possibly they’re getting tired of being called bitter, rednecked racists. And the fact that both Palins are active union members doesn’t hurt either; “First Dude’ is particularly popular as a campaigner there.
I frankly think Obama will need it to be over 5% in the essential states to feel comfortable. That’s about the typical amount the polls are off on election day.
And if the polls show Obama up and he loses, count on one thing; riots. The most dedicated Obamatrons will go stark raving mad and will not listen to any logic. Of course, if Obama wins, I expect far more blood in the streets worldwide, as he is- as Biden says- ‘tested’. Possibly starting with Israel bombing the Iranian nuclear program to the edge of the Stone Age, followed by a very ugly response from Iran.
