Michael Steele: RNC Chair

Fox News is reporting that GoPac chief Michael Steele is seeking the Chairmanship of the Republican National Committee.

In June, the ever prescient Spy wrote

This guy is the real deal and should have been named chairman of the RNC two years ago. He should have a position of prominence during the convention and in the campaign, not just as a black counter to Barack Obama (Steele would win, not just on policies, but he’s 6′4″ and his ears are proportional to his head), but intellectually and charismatically, Steele can deliver the message that the Republicans can and will deliver to every corner of the American landscape and to every citizen.

If the GOP wants to regain relevancy and intends to represent the core values of the American citizenry, Michael Steele will be given the chairmanship by acclamation.

Read my post: “Michael Steele: Conservative Republican African-American” to see his views on such issues as the war in Iraq, the budget deficit, affirmative action, energy policy and more.

As I wrote in June:

Put Ronald Reagan’s vision and policies in Michael Steele’s hands, and watch the meter jump.

Unless the Republican National Committee wants the Party to become an afterthought, this good thing will happen.

  1. He isn’t my favorite person, but I’d much rather him take the chair than Newt Gingrich.

  2. It’s being reported that Newt is throwing his backing behind Steele, rather than run himself. The should make Steels a slam-dunk.

Hopefully, this will be the beginning of weaning the GOP leadership off of fulltime DC residents; part of the problem in both parties.

  3. Time to start e-mailing Steele about pushing for a Sanford nomination.

  4. Not yet, Lance; time to get other neocons out of leadership positions win the Party and to have the few Republicans left in the legislature to commit to fighting for fiscal sanity. Sandford would stand no chance if the party that nominates him is acting like just a slightly less drunken sailor on spending.
