There is now talk that the israelis are indeed considering a strike on Iran, with or without U.S. cooperation, the possibility discussed here previously in a ‘Gray scenario’.  The timing would be right: low oil price, a new focus on Islamic terrorism because of Mumbai, and the transition status of American administrations.  The israelis have no faith anyone else will stop the Iranians from building a bomb, one they very easily could ‘loan’ to their Hamas underlings.  Israel looks at this as a survival issue, which may mean a real global disaster.  It’s a very scary situation.
