Tea party (TP) organizations in South Carolina are divided over
which gubernatorial candidate to endorse next year. I offered a suggestion a few days ago, but my wisdom apparently – sorry, can’t resist - isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
It seems that the division among the organizations – endorse Lexington Representative Nikki Haley or State Senator Larry Grooms – isn’t based on principles or qualifications, but, instead, appears to be orchestrated by a particular candidate’s campaign and, possibly, a big consulting firm.

Heck, our Tea Parties can’t even agree on whether endorsing candidates are a good thing; primarily because some of the bigger camps (like Dallas Tea Party) want a shot at big corporate money, following t5he MoveOn model. A bunch of the rest of us feel endorsements are critical, especially on down-ballot stuff.
Bluntly, we are going for a peer-to-peer network model, where each Tea Party is responsible for it’s own endorsement. WHat ROn Parks is doing is just plain wrong; his business is his group and, at the most, trying to convince other groups without bludgeoning them. This is a grassroots effort, not something dictated from on high.
