Wanted: Running Mate for Barack Obama - must not be Hillary Clinton

Barack Obama needs a running mate. And his running mate cannot be Hillary Clinton because she has eliminated herself since she doesn’t feel that Obama hasn’t reached her self-imposed “threshold” to be Commander-in-Chief.

And Obama needs to take another political gamble and announce in advance who this running mate will be. One net effect of this is that it will clearly state that it will not be Hillary and stop the game Clinton is playing that “It’s ok to vote for me cause Obama’s gonna be on my team.”

The right choice here will seal the nomination for Obama with not only the remaining state elections but with the “super delegates” too. It would appear that by Hillary’s remarks recently she is positioning herself to force Obama to choose her in the event she does not receive the nomination. If Hillary wanted to run for Vice-President she should have said so.

It is time for all of us to help Senator Obama in picking the right choice for this office. Whether we like it or not, Dick Cheney was an important choice for “Dubya” because it gave him immediate credibility with what was then viewed as a weakness on his part: “He didn’t know his foreign policy.”

Obama needs a choice that takes the subject completely off the table for the remainder of the Democratic primary, but more importantly, the general election. And it has to be someone that puts McCain to shame. Which is still a rather large pool of candidates.

While it is true that a Vice-President does not win an election, it is also true that the wrong Vice-President can cause a candidate to lose an election. For example, George H.W. Bush would have probably been re-elected in 1992 had he chosen a stronger V.P. candidate and had the courage to drop Quayle (It is true that Ross Perot also had much to do with the Bush defeat in 1992).

Obama has six to seven weeks before Pennsylvania. He should choose a running mate and choose wisely. Reading on Walden Bookstore.

  1. I have thought a good choice for Obama, to add experience, a key state, and the right pander factor, would be Diane Feinstein. Definitely an anti-Hillary pick.

  2. Edwards would be good (thought I hate him), but he sort of overlaps where Obama is strong geographically

  3. It will be hilarious if Edwards 26 delegates turn out to be the difference. That guarantees the VP slot for him.

  4. The problem with a Dream Team is exactly that…a dream in Hillary’s mind. She has been running to secure her “birthright” for the Presidency and will do or say anything that she needs to. This is just another ploy on her part. “If you will just vote for me, I’ll make sure that your candidate is rewarded…for the good of ME…I mean for the good of the Democratic Party and America, okay?” If you don’t go along with this “solution”, and you know I have all the solutions, meet me in Pennsylvania!!! If you think the kitchen sink strategy or the 3A.M. phone call was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet…Think waterboarding, think waterboarding, think waterboarding. I am a MONSTER!!!

  5. OBAMA/GORE 2008. Enough said.

  6. The three important qualifications I feel are #1, must have voted against the authorization to use force in Iraq. This is the central theme of his experience argument that you need wisdom more than Experience. For anyone who feels that green-ness is an issue for him, then the qualities of Experience and Foreign Policy should be qualifications 2 & 3.

People should pick a VP based on the assumption that the president will be there the entire term and the VP should complement the package as much as possible. Picking the mirror candidate is only helpful if the president leaves office for some unfortunate reason.

I see Biden as the best possible choice.

  7. How about Kathleen Sebelius? The Governor of Kansas knows how to turn red states blue.

  8. I agree Sebelius seems a real possibility, though Webb would also be good.

  9. Bill Richardson would be a great VP or Sec of state

  10. Simple,

    Russ Feingold

  11. How about Jeb Bush. Winning Florida will be almost guranteed. No Doubt, It will dramatically confuse Republican and significantly help democrat to win white house……).and the only way Bush dynasty will continue)

  12. How about Wright.

  13. Joe Biden.

  14. Gov. Richardson. Foreign policy experience, executive experience, and the hispanic vote — three weak spots in Obama’s resume. Plus, he’s a black hole of charisma, very important for a veep.
    Biden for Sec State.
    Webb for Sec Defense
HIllary has to stay put; a special election in New York puts Rudy in the senate.

  15. COLIN POWELL for Vice-President. Slam-dunk!

  16. Colin Powell I doubt would except…… I think politics turns him off big time. Can’t say I blame him either

  17. Oh, I think he’ll pick an independent or Republican I’ll go far as to say Ron Paul would be on the short list

  18. Claire McCaskill, the Missouri senator. She’s proven she can win in a red state (and that state is in the middle of hte very important Midwest), she’s proven she can govern down the middle, and she’s telegenic.

  19. Winning and telegenic being the key points. Policy is of minor importance, right?

  20. Hillary should make her choice: She would be a powerful Vice President!
