Operation Chaos and the saving of Hillary Clinton
The New York Times is running a piece on Republicans that are voting in the Democrat primary. The story mostly talks about those who are crossing over to vote for Barack Obama, but there is mention of possibly the most interesting “covert operation” of any national election held in the United States: Operation Chaos.
Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Operation Chaos’ has been a move to get tens and hundreds of thousands of his listeners in every state to vote for Hillary Clinton so that she will not lose the nomination to Barack Obama. Limbaugh claims that if Barack Obama were to start falling behind, he would order his “troops” to vote for Obama to keep him in the race. The main reason for his plan is to create chaos in the Democrat party by keeping the race going as long as possible.
Clouding the picture, however, is a campaign by Rush Limbaugh, the radio talk show host, urging his listeners to cast their ballots for Mrs. Clinton “if they can stomach it,” in order to prolong the Democratic race and weaken the eventual winner.
“They’re in the midst of tearing themselves apart right now,” Mr. Limbaugh said in an interview with Fox News just before the Texas and Ohio primaries on March 4. “It’s fascinating to watch, and it’s all going to stop if Hillary loses.”
Rush Limbaugh has succeeded. Hillary Clinton pulls off extra percentage points in her wins in Ohio and Pennsylvania thanks to ‘Operation Chaos’, and she barely wins Texas because of the behind-the-scenes help from Rush Limbaugh supporters.
The radio talk show host is influencing the Democrat primary in hopes that picking a nominee will be delayed to the convention, where riots will probably break out and all other sorts of “chaos”. It will be an interesting convention this summer.

I wish Rush would credit the idea with a lot of the rest of of us who thought of it as soon as McCain became inevitable (Yuck!) on our side of the aisle and the dynamics and mechanics of the Dems became so apparent.
Because of this consideration, I had to make this painful decision, which- with the help of like-minded people (including some ‘dittoheads’) could very well lead to this kind of mess.
Bizarre, but actually turned out to be an effective campaign strategy to date. Only because of the tightness on the other side of the aisle between two quintessential Identity Politicians.
A Democratic victory this time around was considered fool-proof; but nothing is, in the hands of Truly Dedicated Fooles.
Why do people think that Hillary Clinton would be easier to beat than Obama? I am beginning to think it is fear of the black man. What other reason qualified reason is there?
This is simple people
- McCain, right of Center.
- Hillary, left of Center.
- Barak, far left.
Considering that the general election is typically a struggle to race to the middle without betraying the right or left views of the party, I would much rather face someone far to the right or left than face someone in the middle.
Operation Chaos is not well thought out. Be careful what you ask for.
DaveNate, the goal of Operation Chaos is not for Hillary to win, but for Hillary to last all the way to the convention and then to lose ugly. It is to use that pit bull to raise the issues that the GOP cannot. To show the seamier sides of someone who, when all the ‘hope and change’ veneer is removed, is just another Chicago machine politician. You think the GOP could have initiated the Rev. Wright issue? Find out anything about the Rezko stuff? Question the Ayers connection?
Because, as we know, those Republicans are nothing but a pack of racists. You know, the ones that actually elevated African-Americans to previously unheld positions of power based on proven ability, as opposed to skin tone. And we know there are no racists among the Democrat leadership; even that fellow that used to be a leader of the KKK, Robert Byrd.
And because of these absurd perceptions, the GOP and especially the McCain camp, will be fighting with kid gloves on when they’re up. Those of us concerned about the far left ideas and not the skin color need the Obamatron weakened first.
And, if Hillary did pull off the miracle win, it won’t be based on pledged delegates (that has been obvious for a very long time). And such a win, with the incedible animousity that would bring, would be something she couldn’t recover from.
A joint ticket? After this back-alley knife fight, don’t count on it. If nothing else, Michell Obama will squash the idea of Hillary one heartbeat away.
So the idea of Operation Chaos is not to face Hillary in the general election, but to keep the fight going as long as possible to bloody Obama up?
Well that actually makes sense, and since mathematically it is all but impossible for Hillary to win, might as well slam the expected victor as much as possible I guess.
He sits behind his golden microphone each week day and broadcasts to millions of loyal conservatives across the nation. He cajoles the tedious Democrat Campaign over the airwaves and urges his myriads of listeners to dedicate their primary votes to his own cause: Operation Chaos.
Rush believes that Republicans can screw up the Democrat nomination’s process and thus render a death blow to the Democrat hopefuls in November. He has faith in his own audience and his conception; the only thing wrong with that is this: it’s un-American.
Instead of letting the American people vote for their own candidates in these final races, Rush wants to spoil the whole process. Depending upon who is the underdog in each State, Rush urges his listeners to vote for either Hillary or Obama. He wants the race to be very close, so that the Super Delegates will have to make a semi-unpopular choice of nominee for the party. Limbaugh gleefully gloats that his operation is ruining the Democrat party and deludes his audience into thinking that they are creating havoc for their opponents. It’s just one big joke on the election process; but it’s also unpatriotic.
It’s un-American because it goes against the forces of freedom in a Republic. He’s trying to squander the votes and voices of conservatives by making them do something that goes against their will: voting for Hillary Clinton. For almost a decade, the United States became the laughing stock of the world because of the shenanigans in the Whitehouse during the Clinton administrations. Are conservatives willing to set aside their furor over those wilderness years and let Clinton win States like Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania? Is Indiana going to become rich pickings for the Clinton campaign just because of the Limbaugh Luddites?
This is a foolish philosophy and one that has the potential of backfiring on those Republicans who voted for Clinton in the primaries. In the long run, Obama was an easier target in November because of his waffling and woeful inexperience. What Limbaugh has done is re-galvanize a failing Clinton campaign, making her the comeback Queen, which has the potential of running her all the way to the Whitehouse. When she was ready to be picked off a couple of months ago, Limbaugh resuscitated her campaign. Instead of ensuring that there was one less candidate, he has allowed this to drag on, breathing life into the more formidable candidate, instead of letting superficial Obama climb to the top.
Come November, the Democrats will remember what the Limbaughtarians tried to do and will come together in a show of strength that will ruin McCain’s chances. And then what will the loyal Limbaugh listeners do? They will regret following the foolish advice of this broadcast blowhard and their idealistic icon will fall from the golden pedestal that he has created for himself.
Conservatives voting for Clinton was the death-knell to our influence in the GOP. And Limbaugh is to blame. Remember this caveat: be careful who you vote for in the primaries; she may become President in November.
The Operation Chaos people did not cause these two to turn into a pair of toddlers throwing a tantrum on the playground; that was up to them.
Let’s get this straight: Hillary cannot win without overturning the pledged vote. That’s been true for a long time and that would be political suicide for the Dems.
Foolish strategy? Would you prefer Obama to have come out unscathed with his ‘Hope and Change’ veneer unmarred? Flush with cash, with donors to spare, and a fully united Democrat party, ignorant of the typical Chicago politician that lies beneath? With the MSM working to get the steamroller going and ignoring the questions about character and judgment (like they did with Bill Clinton)? Not me. As soon as the Democrat nominee is settled, the MSM will be in the tank with them, helping with their campaign; the longer that’s put off, the better it is.
Rush claims the strategy was his, but many of us figured it out long before him. He just got it out to the wider audience.
Corruption of the Democratic Primary process is now en vogue, as proven by Conservatives, and encouraged by Rush Limbaugh, who believe that a protracted Democratic Primary season will ultimately serve Republicans well. The reasoning offered to support this strategy, as we have been given, is that a “Bloodied Up” Obama & Clinton will be the result of revealed faults and short-comings.
Operation Chaos participants have proudly claimed, as accounted on Talk Radio and Internet Blogs, have taken to registering as Democrats in established Open Primaries (state provisions that empower the electorate to vote without respect of party in the candidate election process - primaries) and supporting Sen Clinton with the hope that neither Sen Clinton nor Sen Obama will emerge as the victor until the Democratic National Convention in August. The anticipated, and hopeful, result of this effort is that both Democratic Candidates will sufficiently flog the other and subsequently prove themselves unelectable.
Conservatives, as we have been told, are guided by a concept of morality and values that extend throughout all endeavors, political aspirations, social and personal responsibility. Democrats & Liberals, as we have been told, are guided purely by a desire for power, at the expense of morality & values. The former, as it appears, no longer applies. The justification for Operation Chaos, as we have been able to determine, has been the same Moral Relativism despised by Conservatives, that being… “They do it too.”…Accepted.
That said, Democrats are left with but a few options, as we have been able to determine. Any argument or dialog that denounces the strategy of Operation Chaos will likely result in Democrats being further defined as “Weak” and “Whining”, an option obviously explored far too often. Democrats have spoken of Operation Chaos in low tones, on Talk Radio and Internet Blogs, denouncing its effect, rather real or perceived. What matters most is not its effectiveness, as touted by Conservatives, but how to leverage the net result, Media coverage.
In their quest to maintain a stage for the Democratic Presidential candidates to “bloody” the other, Conservatives have given the Media a greater call to explore the nuances of the Democratic campaign, thus, broader coverage. Democrats can realistically benefit from Operation Chaos by continuing a soft-ball approach to differentiation during the next several weeks, conduct themselves civilly, and shape the dialog, as Sen McCain takes a back seat….. Operation Chaos II
Operation Chaos II may be the Saving Grace that both Sen Clinton & Obama need to further articulate their positions on issues that have been tracked as being the most important to all Americans. Consider it Political Crisis Management, Operation Chaos II may very well be the best approach to campaigning for Democrats nationally.
